LA Weight Loss
I have comtinued my search to find a great facillity to work out in. I called La weight loss and I have and meeting with one of there counslers Fri.
I hope that they are cheaper than Big Tyme Fitness, they are a bit costly.I have many goals that I have yet to accomplish. I still am on a search for my energy. I also beleve that they will help me learn more about nutrition.
I would love to be 125lbs that is my goal weight, that may be a little extream. but I want to set m goals high so I can have a challenge.

Big Tyme Fitness
I have been doing some reasearch on different methods I could have taken to improve the quality of my quest. While reasarching some personal trainers., one became disticnt from the rest.
Big Tyme Fitness is a company that is like no other. This company will come to you. This company would have turned my quest around. I currently have to stop what I am doing to work out. This is often the reason why my quest was unsuccesful.I did not like to stop what I was doing to drive 10miles to go work out. The biggest con to the company is the expence. They charge nearly 35.00 a seccion this is very costly.
I believe I will continue my quest when the 30days is over, but I will change a few rules.

Routine
I have not been sticking to my plan, unfortunantly. I have been thinking about what I can do to start the quest over if I had the option to.
The first thing I would do is become more Knowlegable about nutritious food. I wish I ate for nutrients rather than pleasure. If you think about it most of us do eat for pleasure. When you think about your favorite food, it is more than likely how good it taste, not how healthy it is for you.
Another thing that I could change is my exersize routine. I now do not have to pay for my training. This has alot of perks. But, it has alot of down falls as well. I believe if I was paying for my trainer I would go to our appointment.

Milk
I have began drinking milk before bed this week. I have noticed a change in how long it takes me to go to sleep. I feel as if it is signigicantly less that not drinking anything at all.
It gives us the kind of feeling that you are full, although you have not had a midnight snack so to speak.

Energy Drinks
I have recently tried to right a essay about energy drinks an there negative bennifits and it was nearly impossible. I scanned through at least 15 article and was proven wrong. Some of the research suggest that it may be benificial before you work out.
I may have to look into the research a bit further. I am definitly going to have a talk with Michelle. She made is seam as if they were the worst thing in the world.
Taurine is one of the maim ingreadients in energy drinks and supplements. But, I did discover that drinking energy with alchohol is not going to make you less hungover in the morning according to one research I read.

I am so disapointed in myself this week I have been slacking hardcore. I have drank soda, and have not been the the gym once this week. But, at least I am getting caught up on some school work.
Well I did learn one thing. once you stop drinking soda a then take a sip it litterally tasted like surup.

Prenatal Eating Habbit
While doing some research for an upcoming assighnment I have made a startling discovery. According to Jeremy Cox, author of "Shands Jacksonville provides moms-to-be with healthy food: Poor prenatal nutrition is a factor in Jacksonville's high infant death rate" ,published in Florida Times-Union "Poor prenatal nutrition was one of the main factors cited in Jacksonville's high infant death rate in an influential Jacksonville Community Council study released last year. In particular, it said, access to grocery stores stocked with healthy food is "limited or nonexistent" for many poor residents"(1).
In this article they express the importace of healthy eating habbits especially in pregnant woman.I found it disturbing that these children can not protect themselves, and so much harm is happening that is so easly prevented. 33 percent of Jacksonvilles infant deaths was at fault of the overweight mothers. This number is insane.

Overweight Children
Today I watched an episode of Maury and became extreamly frusterated. The topic overweight children. Who do we blame.I have put together a few suspects in my mind.
My first suspect is the parents. Often their exuse is " I would be a bad parent if I denied my child food" In my opinion this is the most ridiculas exuse in the books. Would you give your teenager weed if they wanted it? Hopefully the answer is no. So why do so many parents over feed of inproperly feed there toddlers. The 2nd suspect the advertisers. I believe it is incredibly irresponsible for the advertisers to advertise unheathy products like they do. Example McDonalds.. Don't get me wrong I see no harm in taking your child to Mcdonalds every once in a while. I do not agree with McDonald bribing children with toys and jungle gyms.Another suspects I believe is the makers of video games, rather that enjoying the outdoors many young ones are now sitting on a bean bag starring at a t.v.
It is time for some action to occur before it is to late.

Interview with Michelle
Waking up in the morning, getting to class on time, and working out are a list of activities I desire, but do not have the energy to accomplish. Having a highly athletic peer to motivate me will help to accomplish these tasks. Michelle Barkema has spent her high school career involved in many activities; some include volleyball, basketball, track and softball. Now that she is out of high school and not involved in any sports, she has a goal to keep her athletic build and prevent weight gain. We met about three weeks ago studying in the DMACC library. Since then, we have hung out and discussed our exercise goals. Michelle has agreed work beside me to achieve our goals.
As I interviewed Michelle in her room, we discussed how we could both benefit from the endeavor. “I believe I will learn how hard it really is to accomplish a goal,” she stated. We discussed how she felt I would cope with such a change in my life style. “Although you are aware of your goal, it is going to be difficult to stick with,” Michelle expressed. I ask Michelle the difference she has felt since she started working out at the DMACC gym, “I have notice a dramatic difference in how I feel during the day and getting rest at night”. “Do you think it will have the same effect on me,” I asked? “Not at first, but if you stick to it you will notice a difference,” She replied. Michelle knows what types of food your body needs to keep it healthy. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” she added. We also discussed how we felt about energy drinks. “I have heard of some athletes dying because of the effects of energy drinks,” she explained. “Wow I never knew they could be so harmful,” I replied. Michelle has given me a lot of great advice during the interview.
I now have plenty of knowledge to begin my quest. I believe both me and Michelle will learn a lot during this thirty day process. Michelle has given me some great advice and motivation even before the quest has started. I can’t wait to see the motivation she will give me during the routine.

As I sit around Cici's Pizza ( I know not the most healthiest food I could be eating)I ate my salad and observed the people around me. The hungry people went up th the buffet one by one countless times.
This got me thinking how unhealthy are buffets. Come to find out buffets are the worst place to eat. Buffets are also the most unsanitary enviroments. Think about how many children touch the food you put in your mouth.

Grocery Shopping...
Errg.. Grocery shopping is so hard to do. There are so many different types of brands,what do you pick. Often times generic brands are less costly than name brands. Many people can't even tell the difference.
During my foods class in high school we had a taste test. My teacher purchased both name brands and generic brands. During the tast test I found our that I preferred the generic brands. Except for cheese, it has to be kraft.
I also dislike all of the different grocery stores. It would be much easier if every grocerey store was set up the same. But it is do difficult to find what you need when you are shopping in different areas.

Many college age peers of mine stuggle with cooking, as do myself. It is probably the most difficult thing to get int he habbit of doing. So we rely on others to satisfy are neccesities. Such as fast food. Your typical fast food resturant is not only unhealthy but very costly.
It is iteresting to me that the different parts of the world encompass several eating habits, techiques, and styles. I often wonder if in China people think let go out for American food.

Ouch!!
I am in so much pain. I never new how much my abs can hurt. I discussed on a previous blog how hard it is to conquer the swiss ball. But let me tell you, I must have been doing something right. Ever since Monday, I can't even set up straight. If I do I fell Like I am a gummie worm, and some cavity filled child is ripping me in two. Litterally I have been walking around with a hunched back. I have to admit it feels much better today.
I really hope that it is working, but I am now afraid that my quest is taking a turn. I have been wanting energy for a while now, but now that I have been working out I have been settinng goals for myself to get into shape and to loose weight. It would be nice to fit into those old jeans in the back of my closet. However, I need energy more that I need those new jeans.
This week I will need to stay focused to get my mind back into gear.

No soda, and not even temped.
Once you get something out of your body you no longer crave it.Anyway that is the experience I have had so far with soda. On a normal day I would drink 4-5 cans of soda, This made think, why is it so hard for nicotine user to quit. I beleive it is more of the habbit you have made of it. This got me thinking if I make eating right a habit it will stick with me, and I will crave a healthy life style.

Temptations.
Temptations are so hard to overcome. To be honest today I failed. I did not have it in writing that I was not going to eat sweets. But I know I should not have ate 4 cinninom rolls for breakfast and a slice of frensh silk pie. It is just so hard to look at and not try, then once you try you just can't stop. I need to do a bit more research to find out what types of food give you energy. My good friend Michelle has informed me that Penut Butter and other proteins are a great start. From now forward I will resist all temptations of sweets, now it is in writting.

The Evil Exercise Ball !!
We have all seen them,the big round exercise ball.Has anybody actually tried one of thsese things out. They are not as easy as they look, I had a rude discovery today. As I look over I see my trainer lying on her back, making it look oh so very simple I decide to try it out. Come to find out I have absolutly no coordination. I discovered how hard it was to keep your feet firm on the ground while going up and down. Not to mention the toll it takes on your back, or maybe that was because I was doing it wrong. The exercise ball is commonly used for ab and balance training. It is also called "The Swiss Ball" developed in 1968. Doing a little bit of research I discovered that it is not uncommon for people to use them for chairs, even in their office. There are many bennifits to the exercise ball. Therefore I would like to conqere the beast.

Starting to feel the effects!
Wow it is only day 2 of my Quest and I got out of bed this morning with barely any hesitation. I haven't did anything too different. I did go to bed early last night, that may have been a factor. I have also been making full meals, rather than snacking. On Wendnesday I made this really good pizza casarole, doesn't sound amazing but it really was. I was supposed to work out today with Michelle my friend and trainer sadly she had to go home for the weekend. Starting Monday we are working out Mon. Wed. and Fri. no exceptions.

Where is my Energy??? Here is how I will find it!
Waking up in the morning and unable to get out of bed is frustrating. During the typical morning I hit the snooze button at least twice, so when I get up I am rushing around to be to class or work on time. This is something I desire to change. I believe this is the outcome of having no energy. Like the typical college student, I am on the go 24/7. If I am not working or in class, I am doing homework or trying to have a social life. Which let me explain is nonexistent because I moved to Des Moines from another town and all of my close friend are not near. Finding the time to eat is nearly impossible. This is where fast food becomes handy. Fast food is my easy fix for when I am hungry and do not have the time to cook, nor do I have the knowledge. Needless to say it is probably my answer to why I have no energy. I can’t blame all of my problem on fast food. I’m sure not exercising is part of it. I am on a quest to find the energy within me.
This is not going to be an easy task to complete. So I have set some strict rules for myself to follow. Rule number one, I must physically cook a minimum of one meal a day. This would mean there is no need for fast food. Rule number two work out three times a week. Hopefully, this will build my stamina. Rule number three, drink more water, to be specific eight glasses a day. Rule number four run at least one mile a week. Although these tasks maybe challenging, I hope it will give me the energy I desire.
I will have to overcome several challenges during this quest. The most challenging is to manage my time so I am able to complete the quest efficiently. As a full- time student, and part-time employee I will have to be firm and stick to my plan, and make a schedule so I am able to still have a life. Another challenging part of the quest is avoiding fast food. I will have to pack a lunch each day when I know I will not have enough time to eat. So I can avoid the temptation. These are the challenges of my quest.
I believe there will be numerous beneficial out comes. I do want to make it clear that my goal is not to lose weight, but to gain energy. I believe that I will lose weight during the quest which is going to be an added bonus. Another benefit that I will gain from the quest is more money. Eating out daily is expensive and eliminating the expensive will be great. Another great bonus is knowledge I will gain. I am cooking a new meal daily this will give me a lot of knowledge for when I am out on my own. An additional outcome would be better sleep. Having a great work out will allow me to sleep effectively. The final outcome that I will contain is meeting new people. By working out at the dmacc gym, I hope to meet new people to have friendships with. These are all great outcome from my quest.
